This Sunday morning at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway many Memorial Day Sunday’s of the past will place host to the Indianapolis 500. This year marks the 94th running of this racing event. The Indy 500 schedule is set to kick off at 1:00pm ET. Brazilian driver Helio Castroneves will start from the pole position in today’s race.
The Indy 500 schedule has been running since May 15th. The rookie drivers had an orientation and the IndyCar Series drivers had practice. The next few days followed with Indianapolis 500 practice with qualifying starting on May 22nd with Pole Day. The 23rd of May saw Bump Day, a chance for drivers to still make the cut and be in the race. Friday at Indy saw the final practice along with the Pit Stop Challenge and a ZZ Top concert.
Today’s running of the Indianapolis 500 will see four former winners take place in the race. They include Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti, Scott Dixon, and Dan Wheldon. The weather to day in Indiana is sunny right now, which should not affect the Indy 500 Schedule. There are 33 drivers, four being women, taking place in today’s race all striving to capture the checkered flag.
